The Enchanting History of Pakistan

Pakistan is a land of rich history and cultural heritage. The Indus Valley Civilization, one of the oldest urban civilizations in the world, thrived in what is now Pakistan thousands of years ago. Walking through the ancient streets of Taxila or exploring the well-preserved Rohtas Fort, you can’t help but feel a sense of awe for the civilizations that came before us.

Transitioning into more recent history, the city of Lahore is a treasure trove of Mughal architecture. The Badshahi Mosque and the Lahore Fort are breathtaking examples of the grandeur and opulence of the Mughal Empire. Stepping inside these architectural marvels, you can almost imagine yourself in a different era, surrounded by the splendor of the past.

But Pakistan is not just about history. It is also a haven for nature lovers. The country is blessed with stunning landscapes, from the snow-capped peaks of the Karakoram Range to the serene valleys of Swat and Hunza. The Fairy Meadows, nestled in the lap of Nanga Parbat, is a place straight out of a fairytale. The emerald green meadows and the towering peaks in the distance create a magical ambiance that is hard to describe in words. And if you’re up for an adventure, a trek to the base camp of K2, the second highest peak in the world, will surely leave you in awe of the majestic mountains.

A Culinary Journey to Remember

No travel experience is complete without indulging in the local cuisine, and Pakistan offers a culinary journey like no other. From the aromatic biryanis and kebabs of Lahore to the flavorful karahi and sajji of Peshawar, every region has its own unique flavors to offer.

If you’re a food lover, don’t miss the opportunity to try the street food in Karachi. The city is known for its mouthwatering gol gappay, bun kebabs, and nihari. And if you have a sweet tooth, the traditional desserts like gulab jamun and jalebi will leave you craving for more.

In December 2021, my friends and I embarked on an exhilarating bike ride to explore the enchanting Chenab River. Our destination was a friend’s property near the river, promising an adventure filled with natural beauty and camaraderie.

Starting Our Journey

Our adventure began early in the morning after the Fajar prayer, as we gathered at Umair and Rashid’s place in Gujranwala. With our bikes fueled and bags packed, we set off towards the village of Channi Goraya, a scenic route accessible via Rasool Nagar and Alipur Chatta.

Reaching a bustling village market, we stocked up on chicken, rice, fries, and peanuts. With supplies in hand, we headed to a local Haveli to store our bikes before embarking on a boat ride across the Chenab River. The boat ride was necessary to cross a deep section of the river, adding a sense of adventure to our trip.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by our friend’s family, who had set up a tent and a cooking fire. We set fishing hooks in the river and began preparing a feast. Noman, an experienced cook from Oman, started making delicious papulo, while I roasted a whole chicken over an open flame. The simple seasoning of red chili powder and salt, combined with the smoky flavor from the fire, made for a mouthwatering meal.

Exploring the Wetlands

After our meal, we explored the wheat fields, appreciating the serene and uninhabited environment. We spent several hours in this tranquil setting, capturing countless memories through our camera lenses. The moist ground revealed footprints of wild animals, adding a touch of wilderness to our adventure.
